In the 1960s with the Cold War in play, CIA agent Napoleon Solo successfully helps Gaby Teller defect to West Germany despite the intimidating opposition of KGB agent Illya Kuryakin. Later, all three unexpectedly find themselves working together in a joint mission to stop a private criminal organization from using Gaby's father's scientific expertise to construct their own nuclear bomb. Through clenched teeth and stylish poise, all three must find a way to cooperate for the sake of world peace, even as they each pursue their own agendas.
In the 60's, the CIA agent Napoleon Solo is assigned to bring the mechanic Gaby Teller from East Berlin to the other side of the wall. Gaby is the daughter of the scientist and American collaborator Udo Teller that defected from German at the end of WWII and now has vanished. They are chased by KGB agent Illya Kuryakin but they succeed to escape. Soon Napoleon Solo's chief Saunders discloses that Gaby's uncle Rudi works for the wealthy Alexander and his wife Victoria Vinciguerra and Udo might be secretly building a nuclear weapon for them. Napoleon Solo is forced to team-up with Illya and Gaby and they go to Rome to investigate.
If you want to see a fun action-adventure film without gratuitous violence and gore go see this one!<br/><br/>This is definitely not a remake of the TV series though it is set in the early 60s cold war period. Armie Hammer plays Illya Kuryakin (a more tortured soul than in the series) with the right combination of toughness and vulnerability. In contrast, Napoleon Solo (played by Henry Cavill) is smooth and even dapper, a bit reminiscent of James Bond. Their reluctant collaboration to stop Victoria Vinciguerra (played by Elizabeth Debicki),the beautiful iceberg who is wielding a nuclear bomb, provides friction that grows into mutual respect, as well as moments of comic relief.<br/><br/>Make no mistake there is plenty of action and excitement! <br/><br/>There is also bit of romance between Gaby Teller (played by Alicia Vikander), the German defector who aides them, and Kuryakin which takes several twists and turns. It allows both characters to express both their fears and sensitivity while they pursue the mission.<br/><br/>I highly recommend it for fun at the movies!
As summary says, this is modern James Bond. Story is classic, but the way movie is made is very refreshing. There is elegance and style of 007&#39;s, but with more humor. The way movie is made is absolutely great. By this i mean the way it&#39;s recorded, the atmosphere in movie and similar. And acting is great, too. I really like all characters.<br/><br/>And that cliché old story of US vs. Russia will just make you laugh, since even this has new scent in it. <br/><br/>Soundtrack is awesome. When you hear soundtrack called Circular Story, you will know what i mean. Scene and soundtrack are breath taking! Only scene that is equally good is docking scene from Interstellar, Hans Zimmer, No time for caution. Awesome scene with awesome fitting soundtrack. Senses merging.<br/><br/>All in all, i do recommend this movie for either couples or family. Or, if you are introvert, feel free to watch it alone. ^^
The film is nothing but a sensuous rush of snappy period costumes, elegant beauties, dapper men, kinetic action and so-so quips, and because Ritchie seems even less concerned with story than usual, that blinkered approach very nearly works.
The film is based on the television series of the same name that ran on NBC from 1964 to &#39;68. The series was an espionage adventure about two secret agents, Napoleon Solo (<a href="/name/nm0001816/">Robert Vaughn</a>) and Illya Kuryakin (<a href="/name/nm0564724/">David McCallum</a>) who worked for an organization named the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) The series was different from most other spy series of the time in that the agents were not acting on behalf of any country or government, but a private organization that was dedicated to fighting crime and evildoers. This was evidenced by the fact that the two agents on the series were an American (Solo) and a Russian (Kuryakin) working together during the Cold War. Their primary antagonist was a criminal network known as THRUSH which was dedicated to taking over the world.
